Greetings from Portland, Oregon! I'm Katherine Wood (I got by Katie), an art therapist and professional counselor associate dedicated to providing art therapy, mental health counseling, consultations, workshops, and trainings. Having immersed myself in the mental health field since 2013, I've had the privilege of working with diverse individuals, including children, families, and adults of all ages.

My philosophy of  mental health work is firmly rooted in perspectives that champion social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression principles. After earning a degree in Psychology from Western Washington University in 2013, I pursued my passion further by obtaining a degree in Art Therapy with a certificate in Eating Disorders Counseling from Lewis and Clark College in 2023. My capstone project, "Making Up Stories: Exploring Narrative Art Therapy as a Healing Modality for Survivors of Munchausen by Proxy Abuse," reflects my commitment to innovative therapeutic approaches.

Gratitude fills me for being honored with the Commitment to Equity and Access Award by Lewis and Clark College. This award recognizes my efforts to raise awareness about societal bias, systemic discrimination, and the experiences of marginalized communities. Actively participating in local initiatives focused on advocacy and community organization is a reflection of my commitment to making a positive impact.

Embracing my identity as a white, queer, gender nonconforming individual, I acknowledge the intersectionality of my experiences, including being assigned female at birth and growing up in a family with racial, educational, and economic privilege. This multifaceted identity shapes my personal life, relationships, and professional roles as a clinician.

My therapeutic approach centers on acknowledging and respecting the entirety of my clients. I am committed to recognizing and addressing the potential impacts of my privilege and implicit biases on my work. Welcoming clients from diverse backgrounds, I value open communication and authenticity in my counseling practice, encouraging you to ask questions and express concerns.

Beyond my professional identity, I share my life with my partner, Mark, and two fur-coated friends in Portland, OR. My interests include playing piano, enjoying the outdoors, drawing and sculpting, practicing yoga, creating stained glass, cooking, playing board games and video games, hiking, rockhounding, and gardening.

In my role as a professional counselor associate, art therapist registrant (ATR-P), and qualified mental health professional registrant (QMHP-R), I am under the supervision of Quinn Rivenburgh, ATR-BC, LAT, LPC. I eagerly look forward to the opportunity of meeting you and working together on your journey of self-discovery and healing!
